Tempranillo

Trinity Hill Gimblett Gravels Tempranillo Gimblett Gravels, New Zealand, is a superb dry red still wine crafted from hand-harvested Tempranillo grapes. This vegan and vegetarian-friendly wine undergoes extended skin contact and 14 months of maturation in a combination of French and American oak barriques, developing a rich complexity. It displays attractive ripe bramble and blackberry fruit aromas, complemented by spicy notes. The palate is rich and textural with beautifully soft, velvety tannins, leading to lingering flavours of liquorice, chocolate, and vanilla. This versatile red pairs wonderfully with roasted lamb, beef dishes, or mature hard cheeses.

75.0CL , 14.0% ABV , Vintage: 2020

The hand-harvested grapes were de-stemmed, but not crushed, before being transferred to open top stainless steel fermenters to undergo daily plunging. After fermentation, the wine was given an extended period on skins to assist with the texture and complexity of the tannins. The wine was then transferred to a combination of new (58%) and one-year-old French, and two-year old American, 225-litre barriques for 14 months maturation before being blended and bottled in June and July 2021 respectively.
