Matthieu Barret `Et La Bannière` Crozes Hermitage AOC, France, is a vibrant Red still dry wine crafted from 100% Syrah grapes. Fermented with indigenous yeasts in concrete tanks, with 50% whole bunch and carbonic maceration, and aged for nine months in concrete, it offers lifted aromas of fresh blackberries, blackcurrant, violet, and crushed black pepper with a subtle smokiness. The palate is elegant and fruit-forward, showcasing red and black berries, smooth tannins, and delicate acidity with savoury nuances on a long finish. This certified organic, vegan, and vegetarian wine pairs beautifully with roasted lamb or mature cheeses.

75.0CL , 12.0% ABV , Vintage: 2023

Vinification

The fruit was hand-harvested with thorough sorting in the vineyard and again in the cellar. Fermentation using indigenous yeasts took place in concrete tanks, with 50% of the fruit destemmed and crushed and 50% undergoing carbonic maceration. Fermentation lasted for two weeks, with daily pumpovers during the first week and light punch downs during the second for the extraction of structured, but well integrated tannins. The wine was then aged for nine months in concrete tanks before bottling.

Flavour profile

This vibrant Red Syrah offers an expressive nose of fresh blackberries, blackcurrant, and violets, complemented by crushed black pepper and a subtle smokiness. The palate is elegant and fruit-forward, showcasing red and black berries with smooth, round tannins and delicate acidity leading to a long, savoury finish.
