Offley Ruby Port from Douro, Portugal is a vibrant red (ruby red) fortified wine, offering a sweet and fruit-driven experience. Crafted from a blend of Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Amarela, and Tinto Cão grapes, it undergoes fermentation with vigorous punch downs and is fortified with grape spirit before ageing in oak casks. The nose bursts with ripe and juicy strawberries, blackberries, and cherries, complemented by a subtle spiciness. On the palate, ripe tannins provide structure, balanced by a vibrant acidity and delightful sweetness, showcasing youthful elegance and liveliness. This approachable Port is perfect with mature and hard cheeses or rich chocolate desserts.
75.0CL , 19.5% ABV
Upon arrival at the winery, the hand-harvested grapes are destemmed and crushed. Fermentation took place under controlled temperatures with vigorous punch downs and regular pump overs to extract the ideal levels of colour, flavour and tannin from the grape skins. The ferment was closely monitored to determine the ideal moment to halt the fermentation by fortifying with grape spirit, leaving some of the grapes' natural sugars. The wines remained in the Douro until the spring following the harvest when they were transported downstream to the historic Offley cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia for ageing in oak casks. The winemaking team monitor the development of the wines and analyse and taste them regularly before carefully crafting the final blend which is composed of wines between two to five years of age.
This Ruby Port offers a deep ruby hue, with an aromatic burst of ripe and juicy strawberries, blackberries, and cherries, complemented by a subtle spiciness. The palate reveals ripe tannins providing structure, balanced by a vibrant acidity and a delightful sweetness, showcasing youthful elegance.
Serve slightly chilled at 14-16°C. Decanting is not essential but can enhance the fruit aromas.
