Montes Alpha Colchagua Merlot from Colchagua Valley, Chile, is a superb dry red still wine crafted from 100% Merlot grapes. The vinification process involves a 7-day cold soak, fermentation in stainless steel, extended skin contact, and malolactic conversion. Subsequently, 55% of the wine matures in French oak barrels for 12 months, with the remainder in concrete tanks. This results in a wonderfully structured Merlot, deep ruby red in colour, offering pronounced aromas of fresh red berries and plums, complemented by subtle layers of vanilla, toffee, and nut from its oak ageing. On the palate, it presents smooth, round tannins and balanced freshness, making it a versatile companion for dishes such as roasted lamb, poultry, or rich pasta.

The Merlot grapes were cold soaked at a cool 10°C for 7 days, to extract the maximum amount of aroma and colour. Fermentation took place at controlled temperatures in stainless-steel tanks, for between 7 to 10 days. The must remained on the skins after for a further 15-20 days after fermentation, to add structure and additional colour. Once malolactic conversion had taken place, 55% of the wine was racked into French oak barrels (first, second and third fill) and the remainder left in concrete tanks, where it aged for 12 months.

This wonderfully structured Merlot offers a delightful bouquet of fresh red berries and plums, elegantly intertwined with subtle notes of vanilla, toffee, and nutty undertones from its oak ageing. On the palate, it delivers smooth, round tannins and a balanced freshness, culminating in a harmonious and appealing experience.
