Ferreira Tawny Port
A rich Red fortified wine with mellow red fruits, baking spice, and a velvety, sweet finish
Ferreira Tawny Port from Douro, Portugal, is a delightful Red (Ruby) fortified wine, offering a sweet and complex experience. Crafted from a blend of Tinta Barroca, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Tinto Cão, and Tinta Amarela, this Port undergoes oxidative ageing in oak casks after fermentation is halted by fortifying with grape spirit. On the nose, it reveals mellow red fruits, baking spice, and roasted nuts. The palate is smooth with velvety tannins, balanced by vibrant acidity and a pleasant sweetness, leading to an elegant finish. This versatile Port pairs beautifully with mature and hard cheeses.

Vinification
Upon arrival at the winery, the hand harvested grapes were partially destemmed and gently crushed. Fermentation took place at controlled temperatures with regular pump overs and punch downs to ensure extraction of optimum levels of colour, flavour and tannin. The ferment was closely monitored to determine the ideal moment to halt the fermentation by fortifying with grape spirit, leaving some of the grapes' natural sugars. The wines remained in the Douro until the spring following the harvest when they were transported downstream to the historic Ferreira cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia for oxidative ageing in oak casks. The Tawny Port is a carefully assembled blend of wines between two to five years of age with an average age of around four years.
