Spice Route Chakalaka Swartland WO, South Africa, is a captivating Red wine, a dry blend of Shiraz, Mataro, Carignan, Durif, Grenache, and Tannat. Fermented in open top concrete kuipe and matured in seasoned French and American oak, it offers spicy aromas mingling with blackcurrant, cherry, and plum fruit. Full-bodied and rich, the palate reveals well-integrated oak and smooth, structured tannins, reminiscent of a Rhône-style depth. This organic, vegan, and vegetarian wine is inspired by the South African relish, Chakalaka, and pairs beautifully with spicy dishes, beef, or lamb.
75.0CL , 14.0% ABV
The grapes were hand harvested, destemmed and lightly crushed and then fermented in open top concrete fermenters ('kuipe'). Manual punching down took place during fermentation. The wines were then racked off and sent to barrels for malolactic fermentation and further ageing. Each component for the blend was matured in seasoned French and American oak before blending occurred. Post blending, the final wine was returned to the same used oak barrels for further maturation before bottling.
This captivating Red wine offers a complex and inviting experience, with spicy aromas mingling with rich blackcurrant, cherry, and plum fruit. Full-bodied and opulent on the palate, it showcases well-integrated oak and smooth, structured tannins, delivering a Rhône-style depth.
Serve at 12-14°C; decant for 30 minutes to an hour to allow its complex flavours to unfold.
