Sandeman Imperial Tawny Port, Douro Valley, Portugal. This exquisite fortified red wine (Port) is sweet and crafted from a blend of Tinta Amarela, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, Tinto Cão, Touriga Franca, and Touriga Nacional grapes. Hand-picked grapes are destemmed, crushed, and fermented before fortification with grape spirit. The wine then undergoes extended ageing in oak casks in Vila Nova de Gaia, with the final blend averaging about seven years old. It offers elegant flavours, balancing youthful fruit notes with mature dried fruits, nuts, and fresh vanilla aromas. Rich and complex on the palate, it delivers a long-lasting finish. A superb choice with mature cheeses or rich desserts.
75.0CL , 20.0% ABV
The hand-picked grapes are destemmed and crushed before fermentation at controlled temperatures, with some skin maceration to extract flavour components from the skins. The addition of grape spirit at the ideal moment sets the balance between the wine's sweetness and bouquet. The moment of fortification is chosen by the winemaker following strict control of fermentation temperatures and densities according to the vine variety, maturation stage and the final sweetness required. After the harvest, the wines remain in the Douro until the following spring, when they are taken to Vila Nova de Gaia and enter Sandeman's centuries-old lodges for ageing in oak casks. The final blend is composed with wines from different ages and origins to achieve a consistent style and quality. The selected wines usually vary between 4 and 12 years of age, achieving an average age of about 7 years.
This premium Tawny Port offers an elegant balance of youthful fruit notes with more mature characteristics of dried fruits, nuts, and fresh vanilla. Rich and complex on the palate, its intricate layers lead to a long-lasting finish.
Serve chilled, ideally at 12-14°C.
