Clos des Fous `Cauquenina` Itata Valley, Chile is a complex, dry Red (still) wine crafted from a blend of red grape varieties including Carignan, Malbec and Syrah. Fermented in cement vats with a portion aged in new French oak, it offers vibrant cherry and raspberry aromas, complemented by subtle floral and tea leaf notes. The palate reveals distinct minerality with graphite and earthy undertones, supported by generous, silky tannins and excellent acidity, leading to a lively, balanced finish. This modern red blend pairs wonderfully with roasted meats or mature cheeses.
75.0CL , 13.5% ABV
Cauquenina is a blend of several varietals. Each lot was vinified and aged separately. Fermentation took place in cement vats. A portion (about 15 to 20%) of the wine was put into new French oak barrels and the other part in one year old barrels. The fermentations were slow and careful so as not to over-extract.
This complex red blend offers a vibrant nose of black and red fruits, particularly cherry and raspberry, complemented by subtle floral notes. On the palate, it reveals a distinct minerality with hints of graphite and earth, supported by generous, silky tannins and excellent acidity for a lively, balanced finish.
Serve at 16-18°C. Decanting for 30 minutes before serving will enhance its complex aromas.
